Teacher Training: "Jewish Witness to a European Century - An Introduction to Centropa.Org"
March 29, 2012 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Location Avrohm I. Wisenberg Multipurpose Learning Center
Centropa is a Vienna- and Budapest-based non-profit NGO that uses advanced technologies to preserve Jewish memory in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Balkans and the Baltics and then uses those same technologies to disseminate its findings in creative and innovative ways. Join Holocaust Museum Houston’s education department and welcome Centropa’s  Lauren Granite to Houston. Teachers will learn how to access interviews and more than 22,000 digitized pictures that bring stories to life. What makes Centropa different? Interviews are based around family pictures and the stories that go with them, which means Centropa is more about how Jews lived than how they suffered or perished. Teachers will also be briefed on Centropa’s traveling exhibitions and how to use Centropa’s 30 multimedia films - from three to thirty minutes - based on its interviews. Students in Centropa’s partner schools in Israel, the United States and Europe are making videos about their families, their town’s Jewish history or even videos of their grandmothers making great recipes. Admission is free, but seating is limited. To RSVP online, visit http://www.hmh.org/RegisterEvent.aspx. For more information, e-mail
