Our Adopt-A-Book Program
We need your help to remain the premier source of Holocaust and genocide education in Texas. Our “wish list” currently includes dozens of titles often requested by students and researchers of the Holocaust. Books high on our list have won the prestigious Jewish Book Council’s National Jewish Book Award or are published by the esteemed Oxford University Press and written by authoritative experts in the field.

Help place those titles on our shelves for future generations of readers and researchers.

For more information or to inquire about adopting other books or artifacts, please call 713-942-8000, ext. 121 or e-mail adoptabook@hmh.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a copy of the book I adopted?
No. Your book will remain in our library for use by future patrons and researchers for years to come.

Can more than one person adopt the same book?
No. Each book will be removed from the list once adopted.

Can I adopt more than one book or more than one copy of a book?
Certainly. Just add multiple selections to your list or change the quantities of the books you want to adopt.

Can I adopt in my own name?
Absolutely. Many patrons contribute individually to support the work of our library.

How long do books stay on the adoption list?
Until they are adopted or newer, more sought-after works are needed.

Will you send me a letter for tax purposes?
Yes. You will receive an e-mail confirmation (watch your spam filters to make sure it is not intercepted). You will also receive written confirmation within five to seven days of your adoption.

If I adopt a book in memory or honor of someone else, will they or their family be notified?
Yes. Just complete the “tribute” or “memorial” section of the adoption form to indicate the type of tribute or memorial and who should receive notification of your adoption. Notifications will be sent within five to seven days of your adoption.

What if I want to make my gift anonymously?
Just leave your name as the underwriter out of the text for your bookplate message when you complete the form (e.g. “This book is donated in honor or memory of….” instead of “This book is generously underwritten by….”)

How long can my bookplate message be?
Messages are generally limited to 15 words. If you need more, please call our library at 713-942-8000, ext. 110 or e-mail adoptabook@hmh.org
