Why Join?

Who Should Join?
Cultural Bridges is open to young leaders in Houston from all social, cultural, ethnic and international backgrounds. Our target demographic includes two groups, both in the age range of 25 to 45 years old:

History
As Dr. Stephen Klineberg, a leading sociologist and demographer in Houston has proven, "prejudice has not disappeared in this still segregated city, but it is now less conscious and more difficult to address."

Cultural Bridges was founded in Spring 2004 and charged with developing a dialogue of diversity among future community leaders to help support the mission of Holocaust Museum Houston.

Cultural Bridges is made up of young leaders from numerous social, cultural and geographical backgrounds; all with a common interest in bridging differences, overcoming stereotypes and educating our peers, friends and families on the dangers of prejudice, indifference and modern-day genocide. We seek to find new ways to bring community leaders together to build bridges and explore new joint ventures.

Governance
Cultural Bridges is governed by an Executive Committee elected to two-year terms and consisting of a chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer. Six sub-committees - Program and Events, Communications, Cultural and Arts Outreach, Community Outreach, Religious Outreach and International Outreach - fall under the Steering Committee and together bring events and awareness to the community.

“Cabaret in Context: An Historical Look at a Broadway Classic”
Thursday, June 11, 2009
Reception: 6:30 p.m., Presentation: 7:15 p.m.
Albert and Ethel Herzstein Theater
Holocaust Museum Houston
5401 Caroline St.
Houston, TX 77004
UP@TUTS and Cultural Bridges invite you to go back in time to the decadent world of 1930s Berlin, where life was beautiful in the Cabaret.  The wine will flow as the music plays during a social reception in the main lobby. Visitors can casually browse the Museum exhibits to feel what the small nightclubs of the past were like before a nation was halted by the horrors of World War II. Then, the entertainment continues with sample performances from the Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) production of “Cabaret.” Emcees for the evening will be guest speakers Dr. Mary Lee Webeck, director of education of Holocaust Museum Houston, and a speaker from TUTS. Webeck will provide historical insight into the setting of “Cabaret” while TUTS will follow to explain the creative choices that helped the show stay true to its time and context. UP@TUTS is TUTS’ urban professionals group. A donation of $10 per person is suggested, and advance registration is required. Click here to RSVP online.
