Holocaust Museum Houston, 2,000 Other Museums to Offer Military Members Free Admission through Labor Day
|HOUSTON, TX (May 21, 2014) –
Holocaust Museum Houston will offer free admission for active-duty military personnel and their families this summer as part of the Blue Star Museums initiative, a partnership
with more than 2,000 museums across America running from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2014.
Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and Blue Star Families, the Blue Star Museums initiative runs through Sept. 1 and is available to active-duty military personnel and their immediate family members (military ID holder and five immediate family members) who visit the Museum. Active-duty military personnel include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and active-duty National Guard and active-duty Reserve members.
Nonmember admission for adults ordinarily is $12 or $8 for seniors and members of the military. Admission for Museum members and students under age 18 is free.
“We at Holocaust Museum Houston are happy to recognize and thank our military families for all they are doing for our country, and we hope this also offers their children and young family members a path to becoming life-long museum-goers,” said Museum Executive Director Kelly J. Zúñiga.
To find out which museums are participating in the Blue Star program, visit http://www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. The site includes a list of participating museums and a map to help with visit planning.
Holocaust Museum Houston is dedicated to educating people about the Holocaust, remembering the 6 million Jews and other innocent victims and honoring the survivors' legacy. Using the lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides, the Museum teaches the dangers of hatred, prejudice and apathy.
